-
- Okay :-
-
- Mac resource forks are NOT NEEDED for the following files types and their
- applications:
-
- .hqx binhex
- .sit Stuffit lite
-
- In both of these cases, you can force your Mac to load in the file, even if
- in the finder it says it's a teach text application or something.
-
- However, binhex is pretty notorious, even on a normal mac, for having
- knackering CRC errors etc. The only thing I can suggest is to try again,
- using something other than AMosaic to Dl the files.
-
- Also, if you un-binhex a mac file on an amiga, you will lose the
- resource fork when you try to copy it to the shape shifter partition.
- For safety & reliability, I always copy .sit or .hqx files first to my
- Mac partition before doing anything with them.

-
- This would knacker them for sure.

-
- If you say allocate MacRom first, you eat up your RAM by putting the MacROM
- into fast ram.
-
- The best way to maximise memory for shapeshifter is the following :-
-
- get the amiga prog 'SetMemPri' off of aminet.
-
- in your startup-sequence ( I have one dedicated to the mac) put:-
-
- c:SetMemPri Chip +10
- just after your PrepareEmul statements.
-
- then, don't load workbench, don't execute your user-startup, and at the end
- of the startup-sequence file, put:-
-
- c:SetMemPri Chip -10
-
- This loads all the loading up amiga stuff into chip ram (which ShapeShifter
- can't use anyway).
-
- Next, load Shapeshifter, and set the macROM to go into chip ram (24bit DMA)
-
- When I do this, the maximum memory that ShapeShifter can use is 7800Kb.
-
- Note that the Shapeshifter executable is around 150Kb, so this is not bad eh?

-
- I run EVD with 16 colours, allocating 7600Kb for the Mac. This allows
- EVD to buffer graphics into fast ram. 16 colours is very useable, and
- looks great if you select 16 greys instead of 16 colours in the Mac
- control panels.
-
-

-
- Try what I've suggested :- load everything you possibly can into chip,
- including the MacROM, and you'll get a 16 colour Mac with around 7.5
- Meg of ram. Maybe not enough for photoshop, but enough for netscape
- and MsWord.
-
- Also, Don't bother with system7.5. It eats too much memory, and 7.0.1
- is okay. - you can also get the 7.1.1 tune up which frees even more
- memory, and fixes a few bugs from 7.0.1
-
- You can find out about the tune up from my Shapeshifter Resources page:-

-
- Hope this helps.
